The Romanian Diplomatic Institute (RDI) and the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute (BDI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on March 14, 2024. The event marks a year of strategic partnership between Romania and Bulgaria. The document was signed at the RDI headquarters by RDI Director General Liliana Popescu-Bîrlan and BDI Director Tanya Mihaylova.
The event was of significant magnitude as it was attended by Daniela Gîtman, Secretary of State for European Affairs, Elena Shekerletova, Deputy Foreign Minister at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the ambassadors of the two states, Brândușa Ioana Predescu and Radko Todorov Vlaykov. Ambassadors from several European Union and NATO member states were also present.
The memorandum renewed the partnership between the two diplomatic institutes and ensured exchanges of experience in the professional training of diplomats. The document also established the framework for exchanges in the field of diplomatic research and international relations.
Diplomatic relations between the two states were established in 1879, and elevated to the level of embassies in 1944.
