The Romanian Diplomatic Institute (RDI) hosted the conference on Thursday, November 9, 2023, for the launch of the first Romanian translation of Patrick Kinross’s biography of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The volume is part of the biography collection published by Omnium Publishing, coordinated by the historian and publicist Stejărel Olaru. The translation is done by Veronica Tomescu, lecturer with a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest.
Dragoș C. Mateescu, Director for Analysis at RDI, handled the editing, foreword, and footnotes.
The launch of this exceptional biography took place at a significant moment in Turkey’s history, coinciding with the centenary of the Republic on October 29.
The opening speech was delivered by the host Liliana Popescu-Bîrlan, General Director of IDR, and the guest of honor was Adrian Cioroianu, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and professor at the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest. Dragoș C. Mateescu discussed the content and significance of the volume, and the moderator for the entire event, including the intriguing questions and answers, was Marian Voicu, a journalist from TVR and Veridica, a publicist.
