The launch event of the volume ”Documente Diplomatice Române. 1914-1918.”

The Romanian Diplomatic Institute (RDI) organized, on 27th March, the launch event of the volume ”Documente Diplomatice Române. 1914-1918.” (Romanian Diplomatic Documents. 1914-1918), which brings to the forefront a crucial period in national history: the years of the First World War.

The volume, edited by Ovidiu Bozgan (coord.), Daniel-Valeriu Boboc, Cristian-Tudor Șerban and Delia Voicu, is a tribute to our diplomatic past. The launch date, symbolically chosen on 27th of March, marks a turning point in our history, the decisive vote of the Council of the Country in Chișinău, which consecrated the union of Bessarabia with Romania.

We had the honour to have with us personalities of Romanian historiography, scientists and cultural figures, both from Romania and from the neighbouring countries. Among them were: academics Alexandrina Cernov and Vasile Pușcaș, Professor Bogdan Murgescu from the University of Bucharest, Igor Cașu, Director of the National Archives Agency of the Republic of Moldova, and Doru Liciu, Head of the Diplomatic Archives Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.

During the discussions moderated by the Director General of RDI, Liliana Popescu-Bîrlan, a number of particularly interesting topics were raised, relating to the role of Romanian diplomacy in the context of the First World War and its contribution to the achievement of the Great Union of 1 December 1918.

The volume ”Documente Diplomatice Române. 1914-1918.” is a tribute to the courage and dedication of those who fought for our country in troubled times, but also a pillar for understanding and valuing the lessons of the past.

Those interested are invited to consult the volume in the library of the Romanian Diplomatic Institute.
