On the 10th of March, at the Institute for Diplomacy and Development within the ADA University in Baku (under the auspices of the Azerbaijani MFA), Liliana Popescu-Bîrlan, the General Director of RDI, gave a lecture on the future of the European Union. In front of an audience made up of students, master’s students PhD scholars, researchers and university professors, Prof. Liliana Popescu spoke about the current and future challenges for the European Union.
Starting from the effects of the war in Ukraine on production costs and European competitiveness to the development of extremist parties in several European states, the speech highlighted the most significant developments likely to shape the future of the EU. The strengths of the EU were discussed: economic strength, adaptability, solidarity, thinking, decisions and concerted actions, the emphasis on consensus in decision-making, mutual trust and working together, democratic values and practices, and the projection of soft power. The lecture also focused on the importance of strengthening relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan, especially on the relations between Romania and Azerbaijan.
It also revealed the importance of the strategic partnership agreement recently signed by President Klaus Iohannis with counterparts from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Hungary regarding the development and transport of green energy to Europe. The Romanian-Azerbaijani relationship is in full recovery, under the good auspices of H. E. Mr. Ambassador Vasile Soare.
