The EU’s power trilemma – US, China and the Global South

On the 19th of May, as part of the Basic Diplomatic Training Programme for new members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps of Romania, RDI had the honour to invite Charles Powell – Director of the Elcano Royal Institute. His lecture, entitled “The EU’s power trilemma – US, China and the Global South” provided an interesting insight into the relations between the European Union, China, the US and the Global South, highlighting the main disadvantages of the EU’s relations with them. Charles Powell also presented some solutions to improve the relations of European countries with the major players, which provided a broad framework for discussion with young diplomats.
