On Friday 27 October, in the Gafencu Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ceremony of awarding the diplomas of the “Training Programme for Sub-Saharan African Diplomats” took place.

The event was attended by Ms. Luminița Odobescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who presented to the diplomats the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Romania and Sub-Saharan African countries, as well as the need to emphasize multidimensional exchanges between the parties, as part of our country’s strategy to renew and expand transcontinental cooperation.

Also speaking were Luca Niculescu, Secretary of State (MFA) for the accession process to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Andrei Țărnea, Director General (MFA) of the Directorate for Communication and Public Diplomacy, Daniela Dobre, Director General of RoAid and Mihai Constantinescu (RDI).

The training course brought together 22 diplomats from Sub-Saharan African countries and representatives of the African Union. During the five days of activities, the trainees attended a series of lectures by lecturers with extensive experience in diplomacy, education and culture. The participants also visited the Cotroceni Palace and the Palace of Parliament, which reiterated the desire of Romanian institutions to expand bilateral partnerships.

We would like to express our warm thanks to all those involved in the inter-institutional effort to implement the training programme, as well as to those who participated as trainees and made an outstanding intellectual contribution during the activities.
