From December 12th to 15th, 2023, IDR was represented by Dragoș C. Mateescu, Director of the Department of Expert Analysis, at the 49th International Forum on Diplomatic Training. This edition of the Forum took place at the Chatrium Grand Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, organized by the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University (Washington DC).
Directors and delegates from diplomatic institutes and academies from over 40 countries across all continents participated. The Forum provided participants with the opportunity to present their training programs for diplomats, as well as perspectives on regional and global developments. It resulted in a fruitful exchange of experiences and a good opportunity to establish lasting connections globally, all of which are beneficial for RDI and Romanian diplomacy.
Dragoș C. Mateescu presented RDI’s achievements in 2023 regarding the training of diplomats, the numerous contacts established with counterparts and Embassies in Bucharest from various countries with which Romania has lasting relationships, as well as an analytical perspective on developments in our region.
This year’s Forum session concluded on December 15th with a visit to the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum, the Wat Phra Si Samphet Temple from the Ayutthaya era (14th-18th centuries), and the Museum of Arts of the Kingdom of Thailand, founded by Her Majesty Queen Mother Sirikit.
