On June 25, George Vișan, advisor within the IDR Expertise Supply Directorate, participated in the conference Shaping the Security Policy on NATO’s Eastern Flank: Romania’s Role in the Case of Ukraine.
The event was organized by the Union of Ukrainians in Romania (UUR), the Center for Political Narratives of Democracy, the Public Resources and Initiatives Foundation, the Black Sea House Association, the Consulate General of Romania in Chernivtsi and the Chernivtsi Regional Council.
The conference was held in the Blue Hall of the Yuri Fedkovich National University in Chernvtsi. The event was attended by representatives of the Romanian and Ukrainian authorities, members of the Romanian and Ukrainian community of expertise, as well as students.
During the conference debates, Geeorge Vișan pointed out the importance of Ukraine for the eastern flank and the contribution it could bring to the Alliance’s security, when it is invited to become a member.
He also highlighted how the norms and rules-based international order is currently being challenged in the Black Sea, the South China Sea and the Middle East.
Her highlighted the strategic importance of the Black Sea region of the international system in this global context and underlined the negative effects for the global order of Russia’s illegitimate and illegal agression against Ukraine.
