What is the life of a diplomat truly like? Is it filled with lavish receptions, as often perceived, or does it revolve around sacrifices and risks?
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, Liliana Popescu, general director of the Romanian Diplomatic Institute (IDR), delivered the lecture titled “Diplomacy between myth and reality”. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the distinction between foreign policy and diplomacy, the global significance of the latter in the current context and examples of remarkable diplomatic achievements.
Another key topic of interest addressed the chronic underfunding of this field, which has the potential to deliver significant outcomes with efficient resource allocation.
The conference was hosted by the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology at the West University of Timișoara, as part of the celebration of the university’s 80th anniversary.
The event was attended by Ruben Lascau, deputy mayor of Timișoara and Marius Lupșa Matichescu, dean of the faculty, along with students and professors from the West University of Timișoara.
