Claudiu Codreanu participated in the “Smart Cities International Conference”, organised by SNSPA

Claudiu Codreanu, analyst at the RDI, participated in the “Smart Cities International Conference,” organised by SNSPA in 7-8 December. The papers presented during the event covered various topics in the areas of smart cities, digital transformation, and data security, both from social sciences and technical perspectives.

The paper presented by Claudiu Codreanu, “Securing digitalization in the age of AI. Cybersecurity for the Internet of Things,” proposed the strengthening of cybersecurity and protection of digital liberties in the context of the ever-expanding Internet of Things and the digitalization of public services. Blending public services and critical infrastructure with commonly used devices could enable serious cyberattacks that disrupt economic, governmental, and social activities. Nevertheless, increasing the level of cybersecurity should not be pursued at the expense of fundamental rights and internet freedoms, as governments should focus on protecting encryption and privacy rights.
