Training and professional development course “Leadership in Diplomacy and Governance”

On April 4, 2023, it was inaugurated the training and professional development course “Leadership in Diplomacy and Governance, the “Dimitrie Cantemir” Hall of the Romanian Diplomatic Institute (IDR) This program – organized by RDI in cooperation with the Mindfulness Institute – is addressed to employees in leadership positions in Romanian public administrations.

In her opening speech, RDI’s Director General, Prof. Liliana Popescu-Bîrlan, explained to the participants the importance of leadership training, noting that this new course will focus on practical aspects, designed to provide the necessary tools to carry out leadership and management activities according to today’s challenges.

The first speaker – leader par excellence – was Mircea Geoană, Deputy Secretary General of NATO. He addressed the audience with a video message, in which he evoked his experience in leadership structures (in diplomacy, but also other areas of administration and governance), stressing the importance of moral values in gaining and maintaining social trust. This was followed by the presentation of Director General Mădălina Morariu (Human Resources Department, MFA), who advocated the exceptional use of this course both for senior diplomats in the Central Administration and for heads of Romanian missions abroad.

Following, as lecturers and trainers, were Dr. Camelia Crișan (lecturer, SNSPA), psychologist Adela Iepure (professional coach, ICF accredited), Mihai Popa Radu (professional coach, ICF accredited), Dr. Ruxandra Ivan (lecturer, University of Bucharest).

At the inauguration of the new training program – “Leadership” in Diplomacy and Governance – were present, among the trainees, Secretaries of State (including Cristina Nedelcu, Ministry of Culture; Andrei Novac, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mihai Macaveiu, Ministry of Economy; Daniel Surdu, Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration), Secretaries General, Deputy Secretaries General, Directors General, Directors. The actual preparation will take place at the RDI headquarters from 26th April to 28th June 2023.
