The Romanian Diplomatic Institute had the pleasure of having Her Excellency, Mrs. Ambassador Anda Filip as a special guest lecturer within the ‘Leadership in Diplomacy and Governance’ (LDG) program.
Formerly a diplomat within the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Mrs. Filip served successively as OSCE desk officer, Ministry Spokesperson, Minister Counselor at the Embassy of Romania in Washington DC and Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations based in Geneva.
She joined the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2003, as Head of the IPU Permanent Observer Office to the United Nations in New York, where she played a key role in enhancing the parliamentary dimension to the United Nations and helping to forge a more robust and systematic interaction between the UN system, parliaments and the IPU.
Mrs. Filip presented to us, in a warm and professional manner, the system in Geneva, which she referred to as the ‘specialized kitchen of the United Nations,’ and the Romanian impact within the structures of the UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Through specific examples, she presented us how there is potential for small or medium-sized countries to bring about extraordinary changes in the international legal system and contribute to humanitarian issues. She showed how Romania, too, can actively and efficiently contribute to global issues.
Regarding the Inter-Parliamentary Union, she told us that it is the place where proposals, initiatives, and interventions find their best expression, being an organization composed of parliamentarians from over 150 states.
Together, we discussed the challenges of dialogues between state representatives, communication among the world powers, and the interventions of smaller states in the decisions making process.
We would like to express our gratitude for her presence and, especially, for the inspirational and highly informative dialogue!
