This article commemorates the life and legacy of Alexandrina Cernov, a distinguished Romanian historian, chronicler and scholar, who passed away on June 5, 2023. Known for her dedicated work on the history of Bukovina, Cernov was an influential figure in Romanian literature and historiography. Her writings, such as The Refuge. 1940-1945 and Fântâna Albă – The Golgotha of the Nation, documented the traumatic experiences of North Bukovinian Romanians, including deportations, massacres and moral oppression under Soviet rule. A respected professor at the National University of Chernivtsi, Cernov shaped generations of scholars, in her role as a vocal advocate for the cultural and historical identity of Bukovina.
