The article explores the concept of "policy of rational hope" as a framework for shaping Europe's future, addressing the citizens’ current lack of trust in the political apparatus and the difficulties to envision shared European prospects. The study examines the limited importance given to the specific norms and traditions of European states, in favor of economic aspects for instance, fueling current identity strains and radical positions within EU. Thus, a rational hope that balances idealism and realism is invoked, advocating for citizen involvement in co-responsibility for the future. Drawing on concepts of sustainability and adaptability, the article concludes with proposals that Europe’s future can be actively shaped through innovation, values-driven decision making, and collective responsibility.
