Summitul Inițiativei celor Trei Mări de la București, septembrie 2023

Abstract

The eighth summit of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) will take place in Bucharest in September 2023. Latest developments in the region suggest significant discussions between participating states, and that the issue of Russia’s war against Ukraine will take a central place once again. However, shortcomings of the Initiative’s proposed projects, lack of efficient communication and scarce funding will also be addressed. Considering Romania’s recent actions in the region, namely the consolidation of its relationship with Poland and the trilateral formed with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, it is expected that the summit could generate concrete results and a special attention to security issues. Greater funding, a more coherent alignment with EU’s policies in the region, more involvement from the US and developing a 3SI common policy regarding Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction represent possible targets of the incoming summit.
