The article deals with the naval developments in the Black Sea in the context of the Russian aggression in Ukraine and the impact of these developments on Romania. It argues that both Russia and Ukraine have not achieved their strategic goals. Moreover, Russia has gradually lost the naval initiative in the Black Sea throughout the conflict. Another point is that Romania has been affected in security, political and economic terms by war-related developments. Furthermore, Romania must pursue a naval policy in the Black Sea in order to promote its interests at a regional level. The article employs an inductive analytical approach and focuses in the final conclusions on the relevant “lessons” for Romania, making recommendations concerning the need for Bucharest to formulate a naval policy for the Black Sea.
