The Advisory mission of the European Union to Ukraine (EUAM-Ukraine)

Abstract

This article draws on the author’s personal experience as a Romanian diplomat who joined the European Union Advisory Mission for Ukraine (EUAM) in October 2022. The article outlines the various roles undertaken in this mission, including supporting Ukraine’s civil security sector reform amidst Russia’s illegal aggression, providing strategic guidance and practical support. Drawing from prior experience in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, key areas of reform are highlighted such as criminal justice, national security, and anti-corruption. Lastly, the paper also reflects on the personal and professional challenges encountered while contributing to Ukraine’s resilience and its future integration with the European Union.
