Abstract

This interview provides valuable insights into the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Moldova which has gained even greater significance due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The focal point is on Romania’s vital role in supporting the Republic of Moldova through crises, such as aiding Ukrainian refugees and preventing an energy collapse, as well as reinforcing the two countries' shared commitment to the Republic of Moldova’s European integration. These undergoing Moldavian and Romanian efforts reached a major milestone on June 23, 2022, when the Republic of Moldova was granted EU candidate status. As a response to the imminent Russian threat, the interview also recalls the Romania-Moldova-Ukraine trilateral format, established in 1997, which has been revitalized to tackle current regional security challenges.
