Abstract

This article analyses the combined impact of Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine on the United Kingdom economy, and its current relationship with the EU common market. It provides an anticipatory pattern of consequences for a state that has decided to leave the European Union and its own economic system. The main hypothesis of this study is that Brexit will have negative and lasting effects due to the inadequate actions of the UK governments combined with the complex economic and geopolitical context. Using the latest statistics on key economic indicators – GDP and consumer price inflation – this study attempts to answer the question of the extent to which the political decision to leave the European Union has affected the resilience of the national economy. Far from being a solution, Brexit could become a challenge for future governments and for social stability and the war in Ukraine has just complicated an already complicated situation.
