Abstract

The Russian invasion in Ukraine has rightfully taken up most of the international community’s capacity to deal with the security, economic and energy effects of the war on the EU and NATO Member States. However, it was clear from the beginning that a post-war world will not work without paying attention to the so-called „peripheral areas”. Traditionally, Africa is considered to be both a key player of the future and a present-day source of instability. Therefore, this paper is dealing with the direct effects experienced by the African countries in the context of the war in Ukraine. The analysis argues for a more comprehensive understanding of African affairs as a prerequisite for long-standing and mutually beneficial transregional partnerships. In terms of methodology, it comprises a 9-month media monitoring, from February to November 2022, structuring the data in four distinctive dimensions: military, energy, socio-economic and informational.
