Over time, Russia has included the Black Sea area in its top priorities. The climax represented by the 2014 annexation of Crimea has changed Romania’s and the Alliance’s military strategy while taking on major significance for the transatlantic community. This article highlights the strategic importance of the Black Sea and the regional approach to its stability and development in the current context of the war in Ukraine. The authors focus on two essential aspects: Black Sea security and regional reconstruction. The need for regional security formats became evident after the Russian military invasion, with the success of the B9 group considered proof of the effectiveness of these formats. In this regard, the authors argue that Romania’s security could be strengthened by more active involvement in regional formats such as the Romania-Poland-Turkey Trilateral, ensuring a NATO presence on the southeastern flank, and working with Turkey to ensure freedom of navigation.
