Abstract

In this article, the author shares the results of his research and of his own experience as a resident of Chernivtsi, Ukraine, during the months following the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. The focus is on the demographic change suffered by the Romanian Orthodox minority in Ukraine before the war and as a result of war-related pressures. The conclusion is that, being caught between the Ukrainian anvil of the minorities legal regime and the hammer represented by the Russian aggression, the situation of the Romanian minority is more complicated than ever.
