Ambassador Luca Niculescu shares his personal experience about a major achievement of Romania, i.e. the formal invitation to start the process of accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). After the first application for OECD membership in 2004, Romania went through profound transformations. Successive waves of reforms, which also took place in the context of the country’s European integration, led to this achievement. Difficulties do not stop here though as the final goal of OECD membership will demand new efforts. Ambassador Niculescu explains the meaning of these efforts and the challenges ahead from his own perspective as top Romanian diplomat responsible for the success of this process.
