In 1949, Grigore Gafencu gave an interview to the radio channel WDE, on the linkage between the Atlantic Pact with the movement for European unity, stressing that peace and security could only be achieved through a united Europe and strong military alliance. This article inserts the transcript of this radio interview, as well as a concise examination of Grigore Gafencu in his role as a key Romanian diplomat. A firm supporter of European unity, Mr. Gafencu argued that post-World War II Europe needed a cohesive order to prevent division and totalitarianism, emphasizing the inseparable link between Romania’s future and European progress.
