Dr. Alexander Kallweit’s lecture

The Romanian Diplomatic Institute had the privilege of hosting an engaging lecture by Dr. Alexander Kallweit, Director a.i. of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) in Romania, which had two components: one dedicated to introducing the Foundation and one dedicated to presenting his recent experience as FES Director in Beijing.

The first part of the presentation focused on the unique way in which German foundations are organized on the basis of political groups, with public funding and autonomy in terms of activity planning. The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung shares the values of social democracy and has branches in more than 100 countries.

The second part of Dr. Kallweit’s presentation gave a unique insight into how the Chinese perceive their own identity and how this can be understood by a European. He brought up relevant aspects of Chinese culture and history, giving participants the opportunity to better understand them and contribute to intercultural dialogue.

The question and answer session that followed the lecture added an interactive dimension and encouraged participants to express their thoughts and ask questions on the topics discussed, opening new sources of reflection for young Romanian diplomats.

Thank you to Dr. Alexander Kallweit for the lecture and for the valuable perspectives offered to our diplomats.
